KARACHI: Over 70 full-grown trees have been felled along Shaheed-i-Millat Road over which a case has been registered for the offence at the Ferozabad police station.

Karachi Metropolitan Corporation deputy director Nadeem Khan got an FIR (No 120 / 2016) registered against unidentified suspects under Sections 379 (punishment for theft), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupee) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with 132 of the Sindh Local Government Act.

Responding to Dawn queries, the KMC official said that it was suspected that the trees were cut down by a builder because they were blocking view of a new building constructed by the builder from the main road.

He said that the trees were cut down near a building constructed by Gohar Group of Companies constructed near the Shaheed-i-Millat and Tariq Road intersection on the night between April 2 and 3 and the FIR was registered on April 8.

He said that the culprits who had felled the trees would be traced during the police investigations and stern action would be taken against them under the law.

Meanwhile, a statement issued by commissioner house said that the commissioner had taken notice of the tree felling reports in the media and ordered officials to register a case against the suspects.
