SIALKOT: Students of the Government Aysha Girls High School, Pasrur, have to walk through the mud to reach their school which is surrounded by stinking sewage and stagnant rainwater.

More than 1,600 girls are enrolled in the school and several minor girls fall in the mud while trying to reach their school for sitting their annual examination happening these days.

“Walking through this mud and water to reach the school is a great test for all of us before appearing in the annual exams,” said students.

They said they had been facing the situation for the last several years and it was a concern for everyone, including their parents and teachers.

Auto-rickshaws and other vehicles meant for pick and drop of the girls often get stuck in the mud.

According to the locals, there was no proper way of discharge of sewage and rainwater that accumulated around the school.

The school is located in Pasrur city in the constituency of Federal Minister for Climate Change Zahid Hamid and MPA Chaudhry Munawwar Ali Gill.

Social, religious and political circles have expressed concern over the situation and negligence by the Pasrur Tehsil Municipal Administration, saying they had repeatedly brought this nasty situation into the notice of the authorities and public representatives but in vain.

They have urged Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Gujranwala Commissioner retired Capt Muhammad Asif and Sialkot District Coordination Officer Dr Asif Tufail to look into the matter.
