LAHORE: Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) retired Capt Amin Wains said on Friday eight arms smugglers were arrested from Gujjumata and around 150 rifles, pistols and scores of cartridges were recovered from their car.

The CCPO said this while addressing a press conference held at his office. DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf, DIG (Investigation) Sultan Chaudhry and AVLS SP Awais Malik were also present.

He said the smuggled weapons were being transported to carry out terrorist activities in the city.

He said the Kahna police and the AVLS team after receiving information stopped a car near the Gujjumata police check-post and foiled an attempt to smuggle a huge quantity of arms from Darra Adamkhel to the city.

The CCPO said the police searched the vehicle and recovered 150 sophisticated arms, including rifles, sub-machine guns, AK-47, pistols of various bores and over 3,000 cartridges.

He said raids were being conducted to arrest the facilitators of the arrested arms smugglers.

The arrested smugglers were identified as Haji Khan, Sahar Gull, Mubashir Husain, Zohaib, Rana Adil, Shah Zola, Dilawar and Sabir Rehman.

The CCPO denied presence of Jaish-i-Muhammad activists in Lahore while adding the police were carrying out operations against the criminals and militants in the city and if needed the Rangers could be called on demand.
