LAHORE: A Lahore High Court division bench on Tuesday ordered the Chiniot district coordination officer (DCO) to release a man detained on charges of spreading hate and violence.

The bench headed by Justice Shahid Hameed Dar passed the order allowing petition of a woman challenging detention of her son, Osama Rahim.

Petitioner’s counsel told the court that the DCO issued detention order of her son on the complaints of his opponents in the area. He said the man had been detained for the last three months on charges of spreading hate and violence. However, he said, no material was available with the police to prove the charges.

When asked, a provincial law officer and the district administration of Chiniot failed to satisfy the court about the detention of the petitioner’s son. The bench set aside the detention and ordered the DCO to release the man.
