RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif on Monday said that the nexus between drug dealers and financers and perpetrators of terrorism will be broken.

He issued the statement, during his visit to the headquarters of the Anti Narcotics Force (ANF). “Drug barons would not be allowed to influence our next generation,” he said.

Those involved in the drug business, the COAS said, are as much of a threat to national security as terrorists. The army chief was given a detailed briefing by ANF Director General Major General Khawar Haif on the operations of the force.

General Sharif appreciated the ANF’s endeavors, especially the record amount of drugs seized in 2014 and 2015. The COAS also expressed satisfaction over the efforts made by the force to maintain Pakistan’s status as a poppy free state.
