KARACHI: Dera Murad Jamali made a solid response after Karachi made 315 in their first innings on day one of the three-day final of the PCB-Pepsi Cricket Stars U-16 Tournament in Faisalabad on Saturday.

By stumps at the Iqbal Stadium, the team from the Naseerabad district of Balochistan had reached 51-0 with Shoaib Ahmed unbeaten on 39.

Earlier, Karachi, who chose to bat first, owed their competitive total to Obaisullah, Anas Ilyas and Mohammad Usman who all scored half-centuries.

Obaisullah hammered a brisk 76-ball 81 while striking five boundaries and one six, Anas struck a sedate 69 off 132 balls with five fours and one six. Usman’s 78-ball 63 included four boundaries and one six.

Fida Hussain was the most successful bowler with figures of 5-113. Talib Hussain and Abdul Waheed grabbed two wickets each for 16 and 72 runs, respectively.

The title-deciding fixture is being supervised by former international umpire Zameer Haider and Asif Yaqoob.
