FAISALABAD: Police claim to have killed an alleged robber in an encounter on Wednesday night near Bulleh Shah Chowk, Mamonkanjan.

Police said two robbers snatched Rs5,500 and a mobile phone from Sher Mohammad of Rafiqabad near Government High School, Rafiqabad.

On being informed, the police led by the Mamonkanjan SHO rushed to the spot and besieged robbers near Bulleh Shah Chowk. Seeing police, the robbers opened fire which was returned. Resultantly, a robber sustained bullet injuries and died while being shifted to a hospital while his accomplice managed to escape in the darkness.

PAINTING CONTEST: Roshan Rashid of Lahore Lyceum School got first position in 8 to 12 years of age group, Areej Ahmed of White Rose School System in 13 to 15 years of age group and Iqra Sharaf of Shiblee College in 16 to 18 years of age group in a painting contest titled ‘Save Energy’ organized by the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco).

At least 750 paintings on ‘Save Energy’ for industrial and agricultural development for prosper Pakistan, making Pakistan a self-reliant country and save energy measures were presented at the exhibition.

Participants of the event were: Allied Schools, Dar-e-Arqam, Aziz Fatima Educational Complex, White Rose School System, Divisional Public School & College, Shiblee College, Sandal College, Umul Madarus, City Star School, SOS Village, The Educator, Abu Anees Ideal School, Laboratory High School, Ali Foundation School, The Future School, Little Harvard, The Smart School, Pepperdine School, Pakistan Nursery School, Al Faisal Grammar School and Siddiqi Blessing School.

A prize distribution ceremony was organized at the Iqbal Auditorium in University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) on Thursday and Fesco’s Board of Director chairman Khurram Mukhtar and UAF Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmed distributed prizes among the winners.

Addressing the gathering, Khurram Mukhtar said the energy crisis was looming large and all out efforts should be made to save energy to cater to the needs of industries, agriculture and commerce.
