THIS is apropos of Kulsoom Arif’s letter ‘Karachi operation’ (April 28). Although one must appreciate the Rangers’ action against criminals and terrorists in Karachi, the writer is right as certain acts of the law-enforcement agencies are questionable.

For example, during the second week of April in many areas of Karachi, Rangers were seen getting the flags of a particular political party removed through the KMC staff and dumping them like trash, disregarding the feelings of thousands of voters who sent their representatives to the national and provincial assemblies from the platform of that political party.

Still this move was taken as a good omen by citizens who wanted the city to be free of political tensions and turmoil, and people hoped to see the entire city cleansed of flags, banners and graffiti of all political parties.

However, flags of a religio-political party that was very active in NA-246 by-elections were seen perched on poles on all main roads, including Sharea Faisal, two days before a public meeting of that party. Even now these flags can be seen on roads and Sharea Faisal near airport, far away from NA-246.

These realities not only cause anguish among a majority of Karachi citizens, but also cast doubts about the intentions and directions of the ongoing security operation in the city.
