MUZAFFARGARH: MNA Jamshed Dasti began a ‘cycle march’ from Muzaffargarh to Islamabad on Wednesday as a symbol of defiance against corruption.

The march, which was joined by 25 to 30 cyclists, began from Dasti’s residence at Old Chungi.

Dasti said he was going to Islamabad by a bicycle to register his protest against corruption by the bureaucracy and politicians in the country.

He said his cycle march would end at the National Assembly, where he would present three resolutions -- one against corruption, second demanding that a parliamentarian’s age should not be more than 68 years, and third that the government take back land from those who had got it from the British government.

He said being a parliamentarian of limited means, he felt comfortable moving on bicycle.

Before the march, Dasti had claimed that he would lead thousands of cyclists towards Islamabad but on Tuesday, he was disappointed to see very few participants.

Former PPP MPA Irshad Sial said Dasti had no political standing and the people of the area had rejected his call.

PML-N MPA Malik Ahmad Yar Hinjra said Dasti tried in vain to seek attention of the powers that be but no politician or government official fell for his tactics.

He said the government had cut the prices of POL products and cooking oil and farmers would hear good news about the rates of wheat and cotton.
