LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday suspended termination of 19 teachers of the Aitchison College and sought a reply from its principal.

The teachers, including Adeel Akhtar, had challenged their termination, pleading that the principal had no authority to terminate them.

They said the board of governors was the authority to issue such orders but they were removed by directly by the principal without providing any opportunity of defence.

They had pleaded the court to set aside their termination for being unlawful.

Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza issued an interim stay order against the termination and suspended the impugned notification until next hearing.

The judge directed the college principal to submit his reply until Aug 28.
