LAHORE: The second national conference of the Pakistan Association of Medical Editors (Pame) will be held at the University of Health Sciences (UHS) on April 26-27.

The theme of the two-day conference, being organised in collaboration with Eastern Mediterranean Association of Medical Editors (EMAME) and Health Research Advisory Board, is ‘Challenges and Opportunities in Scientific Publishing’.

According to a press release, the conference is targeted at editors, editorial staff, reviewers and referees of biomedical journals besides academicians and medical writers.

The scientific programme includes keynote lectures, seminar, panel discussions and four workshops on journal indexing, electronic publishing and e-editing, medical writing and publication ethic.

A wide range of topics such as quality publications, author’s and editor’s rights, social responsibilities of medical journalism, conflict resolution, indexing issues and open access policy will be discussed during the conference.

Guest speakers at the conference include Prof M.B. Rokni, editor of the Iranian Journal of Public Health and Iranian Journal of Parasitology from Tehran University of Health Sciences, and Dr Behrooz Astaneh, editor of Iranian Journal of Medical Sciences from University of Medical Sciences, Shiraz, Iran.

The conference, for which more than 300 participants have got themselves registered, will be inaugurated by UHS Board of Governors Member Justice Amer Raza Khan and former principal of King Edward Medical College Lahore Prof Khawaja Sadiq Hussain.

UHS Vice Chancellor retired Maj Gen Prof Muhammad Aslam said members of Pame had in common a dedication to disseminating good quality research, attracting wider readership, improving editorial standards, and improving visibility of their journals in the face of fierce competition, regionally and globally.

He added the conference presented an opportunity to show the vital importance of journals for dissemination of health research and attainment of better healthcare for all.
