MUMBAI: Hanif Mohammad, the former Pakistan captain and game’s first Little Master, is still awaiting financial help from government quarters and Pakistan Cricket board (PCB) towards his massive cancer surgery expenses incurred in England few months ago.

“No news update from either the Prime Minister’s office, the sports ministry or the PCB on any sort of financial help,” Hanif’s son Shahzeb Mohammad informed on Friday while speaking exclusively from London.

“My father has submitted his UK medical bills amounting to almost six million Pakistani rupees (35-40 thousand pounds) with a covering letter to the PCB and the sports ministry on the request of PM’s office but there is no response from their side.

“A day before Najam Sethi was removed as the PCB chief, the Board had announced that an amount of Rs500,000 will be given to my father (Hanif) but there has been no news since of that money.”

Hanif who played 55 Tests for Pakistan, underwent surgery for liver cancer in July last year. “My dad’s chemotherapy is over,” informed Shahzeb. “The last one was held on Dec 21, the day when he turned 79. He took therapy relatively well with minimum side effects and is now much better.”
