ISLAMABAD, Oct 18: A son of a magistrate along with his friends beat up two journalists in the city on Eid day, the police said on Friday.

A police official, on condition of anonymity, said an FIR was registered with Kohsar police station, which stated that Shakeel Qarar and Qamarul Munawar from DawnNews and Express TV channels spotted seven persons arguing with an official of traffic police at Jinnah Super.

They approached them and found that the traffic ASI had intercepted a Toyota Surf having a police revolving light and tinted glasses.

The seven people riding the Surf humiliated the ASI when he tried to issue a fine ticket to its driver and confiscate the revolving light.

When one of the journalists started making video of the incident, the accused started beating them, the officer said.

As a result, the journalists suffered wounds to their heads and hands.

The Kohsar police were informed about the incident but they reached the spot after half an hour, as a result the accused escaped.

When the journalists expressed their displeasure at the late arrival of the police, the duty officer got annoyed and later prepared a report stating that no such incident had occurred in the area at all, said the police official.

The journalists were taken to Polyclinic where they were provided medical assistance and discharged.

Later, on the intervention of senior police officers the duty officer of Kohsar police station was suspended and a case registered against the seven accused.

When the duty officer was contacted to get his version, he did not attend his mobile phone.

From the vehicle’s registration number, one of the accused was identified as the son of a magistrate.
