ISLAMABAD: In a meeting with US Ambassador to Pakistan Richard Olson, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday said Pakistan was determined to have ties with the United States based on mutual and improved cooperation.

The prime minister met the US envoy in Islamabad and the two discussed US-Pakistan relations as well as the coming Pakistan visit of US Secretary of State John Kerry.

Olson told Prime Minister Sharif that Kerry was to arrive in Pakistan in the coming two days and apprised the premier over the agenda of the secretary of state's visit.

Kerry is expected to visit Islamabad between July 28 and July 29 and would hold meetings with the country’s political and military leadership.

Prime Minister Sharif said Pakistan would continue to work to ensure the establishment of peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Pakistan had recently sent Sartaj Aziz, Prime Minister’s Advisor on Foreign Affairs and National Security, to Kabul with the premier’s invitation to Afghan President Hamid Karzai to visit Pakistan. The invitation was accepted and the Foreign Office Thursday said arrangements for that purpose were being made.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi were also present during today’s meeting.
