LANDI KOTAL, June 3: The Khyber Agency political administration is fully geared up to hold free, fair and secure re-polling at 21 polling stations of NA-46, Jamrud, on Wednesday.

The election commission had ordered re-polling on these polling stations after reports of violence and snatching of ballot boxes and ballot papers by supporters of some candidates during May 11 elections.

In-charge security and focal person for re-polling Jahangir Azam Khan Wazir told journalists on Monday that a comprehensive security plan had been chalked out to prevent any untoward incident on the polling day.

He said personnel of Khasadar, Levies and Frontier Corps will perform their duties at the polling stations to be established at different government buildings in Jamrud. Besides, services of army personnel would also be utilised in conducting thorough physical body search of every voter entering the polling stations, he added.

He assured that all apprehensions of the contesting candidates about anomalies in the previous voters list and security had been addressed. “Re-polling will be conducted in a transparent manner as we have shared the revised voter lists with all the contesting candidates who expressed satisfaction over the amendments made in these. The revised lists were also provided to the candidates,” he said.

Mr Wazir said the Jamrud bazaar will be closed a day ahead of the re-polling. He said Kukikhel elders had been informed through notices to stay home on the polling date in order to ensure safe and free polling.

He said his administration had also imposed a strict ban on display of weapons during the re-polling. “Strict action would be taken against those violating the ban,” he warned.

The concern is that if the government is thinking of cutting costs through the merger, we might even lose the functionality levels we currently have.
