RAWALPINDI, April 18: Thirteen people were booked by the police on the charges of hurling threats and obstructing the polio vaccination team members in Naseerabad on Thursday, police said.

Two of the accused, identified as Syed Saboor-ul-Hassan and Ahmed Jamal Sher in the FIR, were arrested by the police while a search operation to apprehend the rest has been launched.

Police said the incident happened when a polio team, led by Rameez Raja, was administrating the vaccine to children in Siham (Naseerabad) on Thursday.  The team members comprised of two females and one male rang the door bell and requested the inmates to get their children vaccinated.

“There was an exchange of hot words between the team and the residents of the area over a petty issue,” the station house officer Raja Akhtar said.

He said two of the accused identified by the complainant had been arrested while police raids were underway to arrest the remaining.

A similar incident had happened in the R.A. Bazaar on Tuesday when a three member polio team was tortured by people who refused to administer the vaccination to their children. However, the issue had been settled later on.—Staff Reporter
