Fakhar Imam joins PML-N

LAHORE: Former National Assembly speaker, Fakhar Imam, on Saturday announced to join Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N), DawnNews reported.

Imam made the announcement after a meeting with PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif at Lahore residence and expressed confidence in Nawaz’s leadership

Imam was the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly from 1985 to 1986. He was also the National Assembly speaker from 1986 to 1988.

His wife, Syeda Abida Hussain, joined Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in 2006, while their daughter, Syeda Sughra Imam, is a member of the Senate.

The politician husband and wife had previously quit the PML-N for Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid (PML-Q) and had later joined the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
