KARACHI, March 22: The Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen said on Friday that it would field candidates on over 70 constituencies of the provincial assembly and the National Assembly in Sindh to contest the May 11 general elections.

The secretary-general of the MWM’s Karachi division, Allama Sadiq Raza Taqvi, told a press conference held at a local Imambargah that the MWM might also enter into seat adjustment agreements and forge an electoral alliance with likeminded parties, as a political strategy in this regard was being worked out.

He asked the government to provide security to participants in an MWM conference to be held in Hyderabad on March 24.

He criticised the administration for not granting the party permission to hold the conference despite the fact that it had applied in writing some three months back.

He said although the government had failed to defeat terrorists, it was creating hurdles for holding an event which was aimed at mobilising public opinion against terrorists.

He warned that if any obstacle was created to block holding of the conference, there would be serious repercussions in entire Sindh for which the government would be responsible. “We will not tolerate any plot against the conference.”

He called for an army operation without any delay to eliminate terrorists.
