LAHORE, March 9: Affected Christians including women and children started returning to the locality under protection by police and administration in night.

Emotional scenes were witnessed as the community people returned to their burned properties. Their lives were saved but they had lost their shelters and whatever belongings they had.

“Right now I have nothing left. Let us see to which extent the chief minister’s promises are honoured”, said elderly woman Hameedan Bibi.

RAIDS: Police picked around two dozen suspected people in connection with arson attack on Christian locality.

Senior Lahore police officers attended a high-level meeting held at 180-H Model Town chaired by chief minister Shahbaz Sharif who expressed his anger over police failure to pre-empt the attack on the Christian locality.

Sources said the CM ordered prompt action and arrests of attackers.

They said a case under multiple sections of PPC and 7-ATA would be registered against 50 nominated and 200 unidentified suspects.

A senior police investigator told Dawn that police would start arresting the accused with the help of footages made by police as well as the electronic media besides witnesses of the scene. He said raids had been planned from early hours.

Capital City Police Officer Amjad Javed Saleemi, however, said a case had been registered, but arrests were not yet carried out.
