ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf’s letter to the chief justice requesting for a judicial commission to be formed over allegations of corruption in Rental Power projects case has been accepted as a petition in the Supreme Court.

The apex court will hear the petition on Monday.

The prime minister or a counsel, authorised to represent him, can appear before the court for the hearing, said the order issued on Saturday.

According to the press release, the court has registered the letter received from the prime minister for appointment of an independent commission likely headed by Dr Shoaib Suddle in the Rental Power Projects case as Civil Miscellaneous Application.

The court, in this regard, has issued a notice to PM Ashraf to appear in person or through a counsel on March 11.

After going through the letter, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has passed the following order:

The letter received may be registered subject to all just exceptions as Civil Miscellaneous Application. Fix this letter in Court on 11.03.2013. Notice to Raja Pervez Ashraf be issued either to appear in person or through duly authorized representatives i.e. ASC who had been appearing on his behalf in earlier proceedings.
