KARACHI, March 2: At least 12 people lost their lives in incidents of firing and targeted attacks, mostly on sectarian grounds, in the city on Saturday.

According to police, two gunmen stormed a private clinic in Qasba Colony and opened fire on a dispenser, identified as Fazal Hadi. The 45-year-old man received two bullets, one each in chest and face, and died.

DSP Zahid Hussain said the incident seemed part of the ongoing wave of sectarian attacks, adding that Mr Hadi belonged to the Shia community.

Other incidents of firing left 11 people dead, among them three activists of Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen and a worker of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat.

MWM leaders at a press conference called for the removal of Javed Alam Odho, DIG West, where they said majority of people belonging to the Shia community were targeted in recent weeks.

Senior leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement held a meeting with the Karachi leadership of ASWJ. The meeting ended with “resolve to fight against terrorism and sectarianism”.

“The two sides have agreed to stay in contact for peace in Karachi,” said an ASWJ spokesman.—Staff Reporter
