Delay in passport delivery

Published Feb 07, 2013 01:24am

PASSPORT authorities are getting Rs3,000 for ordinary and Rs5,000 for urgent passport. Fifteen days’ time is promised for an urgent passport and 30 days for an ordinary passport.

However, urgent passports are not delivered on time while ordinary passports are delivered after three months.

This is ridiculous and unjustified. The passport authorities give the plea that they are short of passport books and hence the abnormal delay.

Owing to the abnormal delay in issuing ordinary passports, many people prefer to apply for passports on an urgent basis. However, despite payment of extra money, urgent passports are not delivered on time.

This is creating unrest among the people. No government official or the authority concerned bothers to resolve the issue and reduce the delivery period.

The government should pay serious attention towards resolving the problem.

My husband sent his Pakistan Origin Card (POC ) several months ago with a fee close to $250. No response from NADRA. The Consulate in Los Angeles says it can not do anything as it is only NADRA's responsibility. I am wondering if after the elections, we will be asked to apply and pay again. Can someone take notice of this and expedite matters please?

Ordinary or Urgent this doesn't make any sense. All the people must have equal opportunities, they may be poor or rich.Delivery time must not be more than 10 days.

Please try to understand. Pakistan was fought for because Moslims of the Sub Continent had 'needed' a separate country. Pak Constitution is Theory of 'Need' or 'Nazariya a ZrooraT'. Everybody 'needs' Money so, they make Money legally or illegally. Workers in Passport Office too. How would they get Bribes and make Money if Passports were delivered on time?

This has been going on for quite some time now. If the govt wanted to pay any attention to this issue it would have done so long ago. Our govt seems to have no time or interest in resolution of such matters.

Pakistanis living abroad will notice the vast vast differences the services rendered abroad to its citizens in issuing passports as compared to pakistan passport offices in pakistan and its missions working abroad.
