Acid thrower gets 27 years

ISLAMABAD, Jan 26: An additional district and sessions judge (ADSJ) Islamabad, on Saturday, awarded 27 years imprisonment and Rs200,000 fine to an accused for throwing acid on the face of a woman.

Additional district and sessions judge Rafaqat Awan also directed the accused to pay Rs1.46 million as Diyat (financial compensation under Islamic laws) to the victim.

The police on April, 2010, arrested the accused, after the husband of the victim filed a complaint with the Shalimar police.

The police registered a case under section 324 and 452 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) for attempting to kill and forcefully enter a private residence.

According to the contents of the FIR, the accused on April 12, 2010, forcefully entered the house and threw acid on the face of the victim.

The acid badly burnt the face of the woman and she was hurriedly shifted to a nearby hospital.

The husband alleged that the accused was a man of bad repute and would stalk their residence by standing outside.

In the FIR, the husband stated that a couple of days before the incident, he had quarrelled with the accused but despite warnings, the accused continued to stand outside their house, adding that revenge was the motive behind the act.
