THE recent steps by the government to generate electricity through wind at Jhimpir will definitely contribute to Pakistan’s economy and help it to cope with the power crisis.

The wind energy is a unique renewable energy resource. It is a short - term project which can be completed within two years. The gross wind power potential of this area is 43,000 MW.

Wind power provides an opportunity to reduce dependence on costly imported fossil fuel. The cost per unit of electricity generated by wind is less than thermal-electricity generation, but the cost per unit may be reduced through establishing a wind turbine manufacturing plant and a wind energy engineering and management institute at Jhimpir/Jamshoro.
