ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Interior Rehman Malik has said that in order to avoid any mishap Dr Tahirul Qadri will be requested to hold his rally at sector F-9 Park in Islamabad.

Dr Qadri, chief of Tehrik Minhajul Quran, has announced that he will lead a long march on Islamabad and hold a huge rally there on Jan 14 to press the government for election reforms.

Talking to journalists at the Islamabad Police’s CIA office, Mr Malik said most suspects in the Benazir Bhutto murder case had been arrested and soon the investigation report would be released to the media. He said negotiations with the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan could be held if the TTP agreed to disarm.

He said different parties and groups preferred to stage public meetings in Islamabad because they knew holding such protest rallies in the capital would bring them instant popularity.

“A large number of the residents of Islamabad visited my office and requested me not to allow political activities in the federal capital as these affect their businesses and day-to-day activities,” he said.

Mr Malik said that although ‘D Chowk’ was a favourite place for politicians, the government would request Dr Qadri to proceed to F-9 Park because a stage and facilities for the media were already available there.
