TAXILA, Dec 14: The consumers of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines (SNGPL) of Taxila, Wah Cantonment, Hassanabdal and adjoining areas on Friday protested the shifting of the company’s office to virtually inaccessible area and demanded the decision to be undone.

The office has been moved to inside the garrison city of Wah Cantonment, which houses Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF), where entry is through passes, involving an arduous process.

Earlier, it was located adjacent to GT road in New City where people of all the three cities as well as adjacent areas including over 200 villages have access to file application for new connection, rectification of gas bills and other matters related to company.

The protest rally was also participated by local leaders of political parties. Talking to newsmen, former MPA from Wah Cantt Prof Mohammad Waqas Khan condemned the decision, which has put the consumers in a lot of trouble.

JI General Secretary Tanzeel Mudassir while speaking on the occasion said that vehicles without specific permit were not allowed to enter the garrison city of Wah Cantonment.

The consumers who come from far flung areas have to undergo mental and physical trauma to reach the new office.

He said the residents of two cities and adjoining areas had been facing low gas pressure and the shifting of office would add to their woes.

Rasheed Mughal, president of a local NGO, while talking to newsmen said that instead of providing better consumer services, the SNGPL were teasing the consumers.

Tahir Suleman, a consumer while talking to this reporter said that he came from rural area of Taxila and spent over 20 minutes in heavy rains to get a pass from the security picket.

The consumers called upon the managing director of SNGPL and regional officer to withdraw the decision in best public interest.
