PESHAWAR, Dec 13: The University of Peshawar (UoP) has formed a task force to monitor the performance of the colleges affiliated with it.

Addressing a workshop on ‘Monitoring and evaluation of affiliated private colleges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, UoP Vice-chancellor Dr Qibla Ayaz said that dean of each faculty would monitor performance of the affiliated colleges.

The participants of the workshop said that private colleges should hire full-time faculty members and pay them salaries at par with the government lecturers.

According to a press release issued here on Thursday, they said that better salary package would motivate the teachers to perform better. The workshop, organised by UoP at Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum Hall, was chaired by Dr Qibla Ayaz.

Higher Education Additional Secretary Dr Khalid Khan was also present on the occasion.

Six working groups were formed during the workshop for coming up with suggestions that could lead to improving the nature and frequency of monitoring by the parent universities.

The groups were of the opinion that quality of laboratories and multimedia facilities needed immediate improvement at the institutions. They said that proper security arrangements, installation of operational firefighting system and availability of first aid facility to the students should made mandatory for granting affiliations to private colleges.

They also stressed the need for increasing the frequency of surprise visits to the affiliated colleges to keep proper quality check. The names of newly inducted faculty and those leaving out should be immediately reported to the affiliating institute and detailed curriculum vitae of the teachers must be maintained on a regular basis, they said.

A staffer of Kohat University of Science and Technology said that introduction of BS programme in 100 government colleges was a challenge. He added that adequate faculties and infrastructure were required for properly running the programme.

He suggested a gradual transformation from BA/B.Sc to BS four-year programme with a standard affiliating procedure for the government colleges as well. — Bureau Report
