PESHAWAR, Dec 7: The district administration has seized three containers full of unhygienic chicken meat and arrested two persons supplying it to vendors in parts of provincial metropolis.

The accused were arrested on the spot when a raiding party led by District Coordination Officer Mohammad Javaid Marwat visited a warehouse at Budhni area on Charsadda Road here on Friday.

According to a police official, the accused were dealing in the business since long and used to supply poultry meat to different marriage halls, restaurants, hotels and vendors in Peshawar.

He said that arrest warrants had been issued for owners of the containers – Haji Jamdad resident of Phando Road and Khan Agha of Changarabad, Peshawar – while two accused had been arrested under 16 MPO.

He said that samples of the meat had been sent to laboratory for tests so that the stock would be destroyed. The official said that some members of the raiding party, including ASI Ashfaq, constable Sahib Gul, photographer Zeeshan Tasleem and driver Iftikhar Khan, got unconscious due to stinking smell when they opened the container. They were taken to a local dispensary.

The official said that the chicken meat was being supplied from Punjab to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on regular basis. He said that a clue of the warehouse was given by a supplier at Firdaus Market.

Meanwhile, Peshawar police arrested 109 outlaws, including 17 proclaimed offenders, and recovered weapons and narcotics from their possession. — Bureau Report
