IT was surprising to read a recent quarter-page advertisement by the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco), asking people who are using their home premises for commercial purposes to ‘regularise’ their electricity connections by converting them to commercial ones.
To start with, it is illegal, according to the Capital Development Authority by-laws, to use residential accommodations for commercial purposes.
By regularising and converting the electric meters to commercial ones is purely illegal and will give a justification to the individuals involved in carrying out commercial activities in residential areas.
There seems to be a disconnect between the CDA and the Iesco which needs to be immediately looked into to avoid any future legal complications.
