KARACHI, Nov 30: Armed robbers stormed into a private bank branch on Tipu Sultan Road on Friday, held the staff at gunpoint and walked off with over Rs4.5 million in the 21st bank heist of the year.

Police said that five robbers entered the Meezan Bank’s Tipu Sultan Road branch. Two of the robbers stayed at the main entrance of the bank while remaining three snatched the pistol of a private security guard, held the other staff at gunpoint and collected cash from the cash counters.

They completed their operation within five minutes and escaped on motorcycles, the police said, adding that they did not take away the digital video recorder (DVR) from the bank.

Till late in the night, no FIR regarding the heist was lodged at the Tipu Sultan police station.—Staff Reporter
