KARACHI, Nov 21: Sindh Minister for Mines and Minerals Manzoor Hussain Wassan on Wednesday called on Chief Election Commissioner retired Justice Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim at his camp office in the city and drew his attention towards the reported shifting of votes from one tehsil to another.
The chief election commissioner told the minister that the election commission was taking necessary measures for holding fair elections.
Mr Wasan said that the government wanted that voters’ lists be free from any ‘double entry’.Following the meeting, Mr Wassan told media persons that it was the Pakistan People’s Party that had ensured holding of fair elections.
He added the unanimous appointment of an impartial chief election commissioner had provided the basis for holding credible elections in the country.
The minister said the government had no objection if the election commission acquired judicial officials for supervising the upcoming elections as returning officers and deployed Rangers or other law-enforcement agencies for the maintenance of peace and discipline at polling stations.
