ISLAMABAD: Federal law minister Farooq H Naek on Tuesday said that the upcoming general elections would be held on time, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to media representatives after meeting with Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retired) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim, Naek said reports suggesting that the elections would be postponed were baseless.

The minister said announcing the date of the upcoming general elections was the constitutional authority of the president.

Naek added that the Constitution was clear on the procedure to appoint a caretaker prime minister.

He said the assemblies would be dissolved upon the advice of the prime minister, adding that, the election commission was prepared to hold the country's upcoming general elections.
