I PERSONALLY hold Dawn in high esteem and read it regularly. No doubt it is the country’s leading newspaper with a track record of neutrality and impartial reporting. However, the news reports published on Oct 24 and 25 created a wrong impression about the relationship between the PPP and its coalition partners, especially the PML(Q).

These reports are based on a misunderstanding as the PPP is running a coalition government in which the PML(Q) is a partner.

We have decided to form an alliance with the PML (Q) to jointly contest the forthcoming elections with complete understanding.

There is no question at all of any misunderstandings at any level between the two parties.

Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, president of the PML (Q), was very gracious to personally call me and congratulate me on my appointment as president of the Punjab PPP. We had a detailed discussion on the working relationship of coalition partners regarding the forthcoming elections. We have complete understanding based on conviction and mutual respect.
