KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has said that main purpose of the MQM's politics is not merely to attain political power, but serving the humanity.

He said, “Our politics centres around serving the people and this has always been our prime objective and guiding principle.”

The party chief was addressing large gatherings of MQM office-bearers workers in the base camps in Hyderabad and Sukkur, set up for collecting hides of sacrificial animals under Khidmat-i-Khalq Foundation (KKF), said a statement issued by the MQM on Monday.

Hussain said that his party has been serving poor and destitute people, irrespective of their colour, language and religion, ever since it came into being.

He said it was a matter of happiness for everyone that the KKF has received hides throughout Pakistan besides the cities and towns of Sindh breaking all previous records.

The MQM chief paid tribute to the workers and said that the history they were writing, with their selfless struggle, would be a source of inspiration for the oppressed people of the world.

Hussain announced that the operations of the KKF would be widened in the coming days, and 100 additional ambulances would be provided at the KKF ambulance centres in different parts of the country soon adding that ambulance centres would be established in more cities in the future.

The MQM chief vowed to build a dialysis centre in Hyderabad for treating kidney diseases. If the charitable people contribute for purchasing machinery, a hospital for heart diseases could also be established in order to facilitate the people of Hyderabad and Interior Sindh, said Hussain, who also announced Rs 2 million for building an IT institute in Hyderabad.

The MQM chief praised the party workers across the province for collecting hides of sacrificial animals in a large number in spite of difficult circumstances.

Addressing different communities of Sukkur, he said it is need of the hour for the various communities living in Sukkur to get firmly united and tell the world that they cannot be separated from the MQM.

Hussain said that conspiracies were being hatched to divide the people of the province, but the MQM will fail these conspiracies.

He said that people belonging to different nationalities and hailing from different social backgrounds are being attracted towards the MQM in large numbers.
