ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim said on Thursday that holding free, fair and transparent elections in the country was the one point agenda of commission.

Talking to Pakistan Television (PTV), he said that the commission would ensure free, fair and transparent elections in the country and if required the army personnel will be deployed at polling stations.

The CEC said that political parties have given some good suggestions on holding of the elections, adding Balochistan needs special attention.

“Pakistan's future hinges on transparent polls, so no compromise will be made towards holding free and fair elections,” the CEC said.

Fakhruddin said that the political parties should be realized that if they did not ensure the transparent general elections this time, it would be risky for the country.

He said that the EC, political parties and civil society should have to work jointly and support each other to ensure free and fair elections in the country.

Replying to a question, the CEC said that the commission is increasing the number of poling stations in the country to 90,000 which was 70,000 last time to facilitate the people, adding that “we are also making a model poling station”.

He said that the change in the country was possible just through the vote of people.
