KARACHI, Sept 27: Majlis-i-Wahdat-i-Muslimeen activists on Thursday staged a sit-in on the main Numaish traffic intersection after funeral prayers were held there for the three people gunned down in sectarian attacks on Wednesday in different parts of the city.
The charged protesters chanted slogans against the ongoing wave of targeted killings and government institutions for their alleged failure to stop the killings.
They said that ‘innocent youngsters’ had also been picked up by law-enforcement agencies as suspects and demanded their immediate release.
Allama Hassan Zafar Naqvi, who led the funeral prayers for Zahid Hussain Zaidi, Bilal Ali and Nasir Ali, who had been targeted in the Rizvia Society, Lea Market and New Karachi areas, respectively, also demanded action against those police officials who had failed to stop the killings in their respective areas.
“Instead of arresting the culprits, the police and Rangers have picked up innocent youngsters from their houses and are making attempts to frame them in false cases,” he said while speaking to the protesters.
Meanwhile, because of the sit-in on the main thoroughfare many vehicles became stuck in a traffic jam. The traffic flow was restored after the crowd dispersed peacefully.
The victims were laid to rest in the Wadi-i-Hussain graveyard along the Superhighway.—Staff Reporter
