Marir Hassan tunnel project

RAWALPINDI, Sept 24: Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) on Monday announced that 70 per cent work on the temporary diversion of railway track on Marir Hassan tunnel project had been completed.

The RDA Director General Ch Naseer Ahmed said that his office, which was also the executing agency for the project, had successfully completed the design, feasibility and technical layout of the tunnel project. He dispelled the impression that the project was impeded by the non-cooperation of RDA and Pakistan Railways’ authorities.

Costing Rs429 million, the Marir Hassan project includes two additional tunnels to provide more space for traffic on Benazir Bhutto Road. The two simultaneously launched mega-projects on Benazir Bhutto Road — the Sixth Road flyover and the tunnel project-- have adversely affected traffic as there was no alternative route. In a statement issued here, the RDA said that the project would start in phases to provide for the growing traffic, arguing that complete closure would obstruct the flow of traffic. — Our Reporter
