SHIKARPUR, Sept 14: Federal Minister for Privatisation and president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid’s Sindh chapter Ghous Bux Mahar has accused ministers and legislators from Sindh of not taking preventive measures regarding rescue and relief management before the monsoon despite warnings by the meteorological department about heavy rains.

Mr Mahar was speaking to reporters during a visit to rain-affected Qaim Khan Wadhiyo village, Garhi Yasin taluka, in Shikarpur district on Friday.

Thousands of houses have collapsed and thousands of acres of Kharif crop has been damaged in the monsoon rains in Shikarpur.

Mr Mahar said that the provincial local government minister, Agha Siraj Durrani, and other legislators and ministers from the district should have resigned because they failed to protect the life and properties of the people.

He demanded that the government pay attention to relief and rehabilitation of people, conduct a survey of rain-affected areas and devise a relief and rehabilitation policy, which includes paying compensation for the lives lost, damage to crops, houses and properties.—BoC
