KARACHI, Aug 10: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) has decided to rehabilitate the 125-year-old Damloti wells to get 15 million gallons of water daily for the city.

Located at Darsano Chhano near Memon Goth in the city’s suburbs, Damloti wells were the source of drinking water for the city during the colonial era.

The decision to revive the source was taken during a meeting presided over by KWSB Managing Director Misbahuddin Farid on Friday.

The meeting discussed the plan in the backdrop of the chronic water shortage being faced by the citizens of Karachi.

It was noted that Damloti wells had been inoperative for a long time as the water level in the area had dropped due to digging of Malir and Sukhhan riverbeds for sand and gravel.

The meeting was informed that a request to the authorities concerned had already been made for the rehabilitation of the wells.

After discussing the financial aspect of the plan, the meeting decided to prepare PC-1 for the project so that the project could be executed without any delay.—PPI
