KARACHI, Aug 9: Several areas of the city are still facing an acute water shortage even though the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) says that it has been able to fix earlier water supply problems caused by power breakdown on Saturday and Sunday.

Dawn received several calls from various Gulshan-i-Iqbal and F.B Area blocks on Thursday complaining about receiving no water supply. KWSB MD Misbahuddin Farid told Dawn that “our bulk water supply is as good as normal but when there is a power failure at any of our pumping stations, the areas depending on them for their water supplies face shortages.”

“The pumping station at Nipa supplying 10 million gallons to the city is directly responsible for water supply to Gulshan-i-Iqbal Blocks 10 and 10-A and Gulistan-i-Jauhar areas. Then the North-East Karachi pumping station supplies 100 million gallons to the city via Karachi University to other blocks in Gulshan, F.B Area and Nazimabad and cannot afford to be without electricity due to which several pockets in the city face shortages. This is exactly what must have happened on Thursday as these stations did experience a couple of hours’ power failure. But the problem is temporary, I assure you,” he said.
