ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected the oral petition of property tycoon Malik Riaz in which he had asked for immunity from appearing before the court in the contempt of court case, DawnNews reported.

A three-member bench headed by Justice Shakirullah Jan heard the case.

Riaz’s Attorney Dr Abdul Basit pleaded that the case’s hearing should be adjourned as the apex court had not announced the verdict regarding the new contempt law case yet.

The court accepted the attorney’s plea and subsequently adjourned the hearing until Aug 9.

Riaz had been issued a show-cause notice on June 13 for hurling allegations at Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry during his press conference of June 12.
