RAWALPINDI, July 28: Punjab cabinet sub-committee led by Sardar Zulfiqar Ahmed Khosa would inspect different Ramazan bazaars established in the garrison city by the provincial government to provide essential food items at subsidised rates.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif directed the committee to visit the bazaars and check whether the facility was being provided to the people or not.

The committee would conduct surprise visits to the bazaars in the coming days, it has been learnt.

Soon after hearing the news about the inspection team’s visit, the local administration made special arrangements at all the bazaars and directed the relevant departments to improve the state of affairs here on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the low sale of wheat flour and sugar at eight Ramazan bazaars was witnessed on Saturday due to marginal price difference between the market and Ramazan bazaars.

However, the endless queues of people were witnessed outside the utility stores outlets to get benefit from the considerable price difference between the rates of wheat flour and sugar at retailer market and these outlets.

The sugar was available at utility stores for Rs42 per kg while it was being sold at a rate of Rs50 per kg at the Ramazan bazaar and Rs58 per kg in the open market.

During a visit to Ramazan bazaars, it was revealed that the turnout at these bazaars remained low as prices were comparatively high.

The provincial government had also installed stalls of mutton and beef at subsidised rates at these bazaars.

Mutton was available at Rs430 per kg and beef at Rs230 per kg.

It may be mentioned here that the mutton was available in open market at Rs560 per kg and beef at Rs380 per kg.

However, City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) also fixed Rs460 per kg for mutton and Rs260 per kg for beef.

People, however, complained that quality of meat that was being sold at subsidised rates at the bazaars was low.
