SUKKUR, July 22: The Sindh cabinet approved a Rs300 million development package for Kandhkot-Kashmore and a grant Rs150 million to establish a cadet college in the district.

This was announced by Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah at a press conference after a meeting of the cabinet at the district complex in Kandhkot on Sunday.

The meeting was attended by provincial ministers Sharjeel Inam Memon, Mukesh Kumar Chawla, Jam Saifullah Dharejo, Mir Nadir Magsi, Syed Murad Ali Shah and Agha Siraj Durrani and federal ministers Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah and Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani.

The chief minister said the cabinet was meeting at different places in Sindh in accordance with President Asif Ali Zardari’s directives to know problems of local people and take prompt action to solve them.

He said the first cabinet meeting in interior Sindh was held in Jacobabad, the second in Mithi and the third in Kandhkot.

Referring to an electoral alliance between Pakistan Muslim League-N and Sindh United Party, he said the nationalist leaders, who were talking about the rights of Sindh and people of Sindh, had joined hands with leaders of Punjab adding that those people in Sindh who were behind nationalists parties must ask their leaders what prompted them to forge alliance with leader of Punjab.

He said the Zulfikarabad city project was for the welfare of people of Sindh. He brushed aside rumours that it was being developed to settle outsiders.

He said 800,000 acres of land was lying barren and, therefore, a plan for a model town was conceived on the directives of President Zardari. The chief minister also inaugurated a bus terminal in Kandhkot.

Earlier, talking to journalists at Sukkur airport before his departure for Kandhkot he said target killings in Karachi had decreased and deaths during clashes between two groups should not be termed target killing.

He claimed hat target killings would end soon. Four persons involved in extortion have been arrested.

Mr Shah said law-enforcement agencies had been ordered to go after extortionists and those involved in other crimes.

He said action was being taken against hoarders and he himself visited bazaars in Karachi to assess situation.

He said the Sindh government had given a subsidy of Rs2.5billion on wheat flour and its price in utility stores was Rs10 less than in the open market.

He said he had visited different Utility Stores where prices of various items were 25 to 40 per cent less in the market and people were appreciating the government move.

The chief minister said those who had joined the PML-N in Sindh were political orphans and the PPP faced no serious threat from their action.
