LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Zaka Ashraf reiterated, on Saturday, that wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal was included in the World Twenty20 squad after he was cleared by the International Cricket Council.

Ashraf was speaking to reporters outside PCB’s headquarters at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore.

Responding to the objections being raised on Akmal’s inclusion, Ashraf said the ‘keeper was considered for selection after receiving an all-clear by cricket’s governing body.

“We wrote to the ICC to ask them if they have any reservations on Kamran Akmal’s inclusion. In reply, they said the ICC has not found any evidence of wrongdoing against him and he is free to play,” Ashraf said.

Kamran, the eldest and most capped of the three wicketkeeper-batsmen brothers, was picked for Pakistan’s World Twenty20 squad after being out of the national team for over a year. He last played during Pakistan’s campaign at the ICC World Cup 2011, where Pakistan reached the semi-finals.

His younger brothers Adnan and Umar have remained a part of the national team, albeit in different formats of the game.
