IT is sad to hear about the death recently of a great test cricketer who used to open the inning with one of the greatest Pakistani cricketers Hanif Mohammad.

I still remember watching at Karachi Alimuddin’s wonderful knock of 109 against England in 1962. In those days, test cricket was very limited and Alimuddin played test cricket from 1954 to 1962.

I had a chance to meet him personally and I was much pleased to see him so humble and polite.

Alimuddin was like a silent soldier who did not like to showoff. May God bless him.
