LAHORE, July 9: The City District Government of Lahore (CDGL) will present its annual budget of Rs19.50 billion for the fiscal year of 2012-13, curtailing its non-development expenditures.

Officials told Dawn on Monday the budget, which would be presented on July 12 (Thursday), included Rs3.2 billion for the Annual Development Programme (ADP) and Rs170 million as surplus amount.

The budget allocates Rs12.5 billion for salaries of employees and Rs1.250 billion for the pension of the retired staffers.

There is no new tax suggested on services in the new budget.

An official said the last year’s Rs20.688 billion budget included Rs1.188 billion as non-development expenditures.

“But this year we have proposed a zero per cent allocation for non-development expenditures saving Rs1.188 billion,” said the official.

He said the CDGL had almost consumed its last year’s budget.

The 2012-13 budget includes allocation for on-going and new development schemes, including those proposed by MNAs and MPAs.

He added as the CDGL’s last year budget had the ADP worth Rs3 billion, Rs10.50 for salaries and Rs1 billion for pension. This year, all these heads had Rs2.450 billion allocations because of an increase in development schemes, employees (both on contract and regular basis) and pensioners.

The budget will be presented by DCO/CDGL Administrator Noorul Amin Mengal.

DCO Mengal told a Meet the Press on Monday that in the current fiscal year the CDGL would allocate more funds for underprivileged areas of the city.
