ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Police has registered cases against seveal officers of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), including its director general Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari, for providing the Supreme Court false information against MPA Tariq Alloana in the dual nationality case.

Police sources told DawnNews on Thursday that the FIR registered at the Secretariat police station nominates the FIA chief and other officers as the accused.  A copy of the report has also been forwarded to the SC registrar’s office.

Earlier on Wednesday, a three-judge bench headed by the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, while hearing a case relating to parliamentarians having dual nationality, had ordered the additional registrar to lodge a criminal complaint against the FIA chief and other officers for providing misleading information that Tariq Mahmood Alloana, an MPA from Mandi Bahauddin, was a US citizen.

The Chief Justice had expressed displeasure over the provision of “erroneous information” on Alloana’s travel details.

During the court proceedings, the FIA apologised over confirming the false allegations against MPA Tariq Alloana.

During a previous hearing, Alwana had informed the court that he had never travelled to any country, except Saudi Arabia. When a copy of an American passport allegedly belonging to him was shown to him, he had said that the picture on the passport showed it was not his.
