AS I write this, we have been in our home without electricity for the last seven hours. The camps at Minar-i-Pakistan are no remedy to this trauma and agony that we have to go through for almost 18 hours a day.

If he cannot be brave enough to take the names in the media of the lobbies in Sindh responsible for power theft, he has no right to stay in power.

Billions of rupees have been spent on revamping Lahore, billions being spent on new bus service that the chief minister intends to launch soon. Had he paid some amount to help pay off the circular debt, at least the chunk that is due on Punjab, we might have enjoyed the luxury of electricity for at least 12 hour a day.

I am a civilised and an educated woman from an upper middle class family, but the irony of fate is that the current situation has morphed me and many others into cynics.

I live in a fairly reasonable area of Gulberg. When this locality is facing water, gas and electricity loadshedding for almost 80 per cent of the day then I am at a loss for words to describe the plight of the other less privileged localities.

I demand the chief minister of Punjab to resign. As for President Asif Zardari and the ruling party, may Allah handle them and may He handle them soon, Ameen.

The government should spare us. The government has tested our patience enough. We demand mental peace and that is only possible if these power-hungry political leaders, whichever political party they belong to, are ousted from this country. Let them avail other nationalities that they possess, but they should spare us. It is about time.

Perhaps Western ‘statesmen’ may moderate their policies if a significant percentage of voters punish them at the ballot box.
