ISLAMABAD: A special high-level meeting on energy Tuesday decided to enhance power production to 13,500 MW in the next 10 days by providing 207 MMCF gas to the power sector.

The meeting also decided to improve fuel supply to power plants and directed the Ministry of Finance to provide requisite funds.

The energy meeting chaired by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani set up a Crisis Management Cell at the Ministry of Water and Power to monitor the situation on a regular basis and take immediate measures to improve the situation. The members of the cabinet committee on energy would supervise the cell.

The meeting was informed that a project of installation of 4,000 solar power tube wells with 50 per cent subsidy in the provinces and 100 per cent in Balochistan would start from July 1. Under the project, a subsidy of rupees 13 billion and eight billion respectively would be disbursed for the project.

The meeting was attended by Ministers for Water and Power, Information, Petroleum, Finance and Kashmir Affairs, besides the Advisor on Interior and Deputy Chairman Planning Commission.
