BALOCHISTAN is economically, socially and politically the most backward province. People are unable to make ends meet owing to galloping inflation.

The reason is the non-availability of the proper means of livelihood because there is only the services sector which cannot meet the growing demands of the labour force.

People do not have access to basic amenities of life. The most important of these are food and healthcare.

Many doctors have added fuel to the fire by opening ‘slaughterhouses’ across the province. They have secretly formed alliances with pharmaceutical companies. The former are paid staggering sums by the latter in the shape of cash, foreign tours, the latest model of vehicles and so on for the marketing of their medicines.

Moreover, when doctors come into agreement with drug companies, they are assigned targets which they have to complete by hook or by crook.

At this juncture when the doctor has to execute the target, he prescribes medicines to those patients who do not even require them.

Can anybody answer whether we are truly an Islamic, independent and democratic state? Can we truly call ourselves humans?

One wonders where the government machinery is. The downtrodden keep wondering as to whose door to knock for being provided justice.

The authorities concerned are aware of the menace but they are not paying attention to the problems of the masses.

I appeal to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take action against this criminal negligence by taking suo motu notice against all those involved.
